Students majoring in this area will gain an understanding in the practice of spells, curses, and history of magic.
First year students will be expected to create their own activation phrases or key words to begin focusing their magical energy, along with specific incantations that can allow for specific spells to be used. Usually, longer incantations provide spells with more powerful effects. Being more involved however, these are difficult to do. The theoretical groundwork for some of these spells may be laid out for students, but they are not expected to practically apply these skills until a later date.
Commonly, witches and wizards may also invest in taking Up, Up, and Away! - Rudimentary Broomwork. This is not entirely necessary, however.
